Comments from Recent Graduates:

"The psychology program at Truman requires a breadth of classes, which prepares students for any career path, so I was ready for graduate school without even knowing it!  Psychology is already an interesting subject so attending class was rarely a chore.  The professors truly care about their students, generally keeping an open door policy in their offices and offering opportunities for students to do research and even attend out of town conferences.  I can certainly say that I attribute a great deal of my success in getting into the graduate school of my choice to the structure of the psychology program, the valuable information gained through my coursework, and the excellent guidance I received from the faculty at Truman."

"The psych department at Truman is set up so that the staff splits up to teach subjects that are not only their specialty but also their passion. The professors are neither disinterested researchers nor isolated lecturers but are active in their field and enthusiastic about both their teaching and developments in their discipline. After being exposed to different viewpoints in the field, by the time I graduated I was able to make informed decisions both about my own view of how the different fields stood in relation to each other and also which divisions of psychology I would be most interested in pursuing and exploring."

"I am writing you this e-mail to let you know how appreciative I am of being in your classes and of attending Truman. Grad. School so far has been a breeze and I think a large part of that is due to the fact that I received such a great education at Truman. I, unlike some of my classmates, have not struggled with APA format because we spent so much time going over it in Psych. Research and other classes. Also, I just received a paper back today complimenting me on how well it was written. I know my writing skills would not be what they are today if I had not written so many papers and done so much research at Truman. Nicole H. (who was also one of your students) and I have one class together and we talk a lot about how well Truman, and your classes in particular, prepared us for grad. school. So, I guess I just wanted to say thank you and keep up the good work. Truman was pretty challenging for me and at times I felt really dumb there but now I can appreciate all of the hard work that I put in because it is really paying off."

Comments about Internship Experiences:

"My summer internship at the Missouri Institute of Mental Health in St. Louis was one of the most worthwhile undergraduate experiences I have had. My supervisor and coworkers were extremely helpful and interested in providing me with the greatest variety of experiences possible. Their main concern was that I learn something during my time with them. While I was there I got to assist evaluation teams for multi-million dollar grants. My internship motivated me to explore more career options in the field of psychology and come up with a better understanding of what I want to do after graduating from Truman."

"I worked over the summer at the Missouri Institute of Mental Health in St. Louis as a Research Lab Technician for the department of Child and Family Mental Health Services.  During my internship I did research with other staff on the Missouri Transformation Grant and the Springfield Safe Schools Healthy Students Grant among other projects.  I enjoyed my internship because I was able to apply my research skills to projects that will have a large impact on the future of the mental health system in Missouri.  I am grateful to have had the opportunity to work on these projects and the staff at MIMH was also grateful to have my services which encouraged me about my abilities and future"
